All people at some stage in their lives will encounter a period of time where they will face crisis, whether it be emotional or physical and it is at times like this that they will need counselling.
All people deal with problems in their own unique way, some people are able to resolve their problems by thinking things through on their own, while other people may find talking to a family member or friend beneficial in helping resolve their problems.
However, many people do not have these support networks to talk things over with or who simply prefer to talk to a counsellor rather than disclose personal issues to friends or family.
Counselling will assist a person overcome trauma in their life by exploring with the client their present situation and how they would like to change, it is often a journey of self-discovery for the client. Counselling is not however advice giving, a counsellors role is not to give advice or to ‘fix the problem’.
A counsellor assists you to identify stressors in your life and assists you to explore these problems and identify strategies to overcome stressful or traumatic periods in your life. Counsellors empower a client, which enables them to discover their own solutions rather than be dependent on someone else’s advice.
The client will experience many feelings throughout their counselling sessions and it is important to release these feelings and explore these feeling with the counsellor.
The goal of the counselling process at Womens Counselling Australia is to work alongside the client to assist the client to work through their problems and discover solutions, helping the client to change their thinking and/or behaviours which in turn empowers the client and reach their goals.
ABOUT WOMENS COUNSELLING AUSTRALIA
Womens Counselling Australia was established by proprietor Keona Perry, out of the need for a womens only counselling centre, where women can discuss their problems with female counsellors and are made to feel comfortable and at ease.
At Womens Counselling Australia you are welcomed into a safe environment where you can explore any area of your life that you are feeling unhappy with, a crisis in your life, feeling overwhelmed or simply need to talk to a counsellor who is genuinely interested in you and will explore your problems, alongside you, giving you feedback on what they notice.
